Family History

The Bass family’s story in the wood industry began in Hancock, NY when Philo Bass opened a small sawmill in the 1930s to produce mine props. From there, each generation built on the foundation of the last:

  • Raymond Bass continued the family tradition after Philo.
  • In 1984, Raymond passed the mill to his son Russell, who grew the business further.
  • Around 2015, Russell’s sons Todd and Shane stepped in to lead daily operations, overseeing expansion and modernization.
  • The sawmill now operates from a larger facility in Cadosia, NY, equipped to meet today’s demands.
  • The **sixth generation—Evan, Lane, and Noah—**are already hard at work, preparing to carry the business into the future.

This journey is more than a business—it’s a living legacy, passed down with care, commitment, and pride.
